CUPS AND TROPHIES

Thanks to records kept by past committee members, we know some of our trophies and their winners go back to the 1950s.  For example,  the Peggy Wilson Challenge Bowl for veg and fruit classes has been in use for over 60 years and the Percy Clutterbuck Cup has been in continuous use since 1958.  One cup started life for "arrangements in a soup plate", before becoming 'wine glass', 'wellington boot' and, more recently, 'tea pot'

Of course, cups have had to be repaired and replaced over time; the Miss Wilson Cup, for example, given for cake, only lasted 30 years (1962-1992)......

New trophies have been added too, such as the Cafe Market Bowl for 'Best in Show".  Other honours have vanished, such as the 'Amateur Gardener Red Ribbon' (1983-1991) Records mention this was discontinued because of the economy; presumably, the Recession put the cost of buying red ribbon out of the show's reach!

In 1958 and 1959 the Captain Allen Walking Race Trophy was awarded, as well as one for a soapbox race.  Both were stored away for 50 years and then mysteriously lost, before being returned by Malvern police.

Many committee members and exhibitors have given long term support.  George Sharp, for example, was Show Chairman for 20 years. Percy Clutterbuck was involved for over 16 years, and Dave Horrobin is still competing, and winning, after 30 years.

Winning a trophy involves a lot of work, but long may this tradition continue.
